Butterfield Overland National Historic Trail is located around Fort Bowie National Historic Site.
This trail is 3,292 miles and the route was operated by the Butterfield Overland Mail Co, The trail is also known at the Ox-Bow Route. On the route it transport mail and passengers between eastern end points of St. Louis, Missouri and Memphis, Tennessee. Also the extending to the westward through the states of Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. The western end point was San Francisco, California. The stages traveled over this route between 1858 and 1861.
