In September 2022, Me, Mom and Carl went on a three day trip to some National Parks in Arizona. Today we went to Petrified Forest. There are two parts of these park, a painted desert and petrified forest. My mother has never to to the forest part.
Stop #1 – Rainbow Forest museum and giant logs trail. The trail around the building is 0.4 mile loop trail. These use to be trees that turned into Petrified Forest. There are some very pretty pieces.
Stop #2 – We walk a long a trial in the area called Crystal Forest. There was some cool logs of wood that broke into pieces. You can see Quartz Crystals.
Stop #3 – We went to a outlook called Jasper Forest saw more trees. Some of the trees were still under the sand and sticking out where it broke off.
Stop #4 – The next stop was the Agate Bridge. It is a 110 ft petrified wood going across two cliffs. At one point at the park you were able to walk across it. There is nothing to hold on too. So I would be very scared to walk it.
Stop #5 – Next stop was Blue Mesa. You can see the blue and the white in the sand. The hills looked so cool to see.
Stop #6 – We stopped at a overlook to see some petroglyph on rocks. They had some telescope to look through to see them closer. You can see the drawings on the rocks.
Stop #7 – We went to a area where there was some ruins called Puerco Pueblo. There were a lot of different ruins that were together.
Stop #8 – We stopped at Painted Desert overlooks. It was very pretty to see how the sun was shining on the hills.
Stop #9 – The other visitor center where I got some stamps and gifts.
It was a good day doing this. Weather was prefect.

I’ve always wanted to go here! Definitely have to visit some AZ parks soon!
Wow that’s such a different type of National park. So cool especially the stop with the quartz.
The ruins also look super interesting!
I love national parks too! This a unique one for sure!
Arizonan here! I haven’t visited the Petrified Forest in a few years. This post inspires me to head up north and visit again with my son now that he is old enough to remember! Thanks for the inspiration!
You’re welcome. Enjoy!!
I love AZ in winter! I need to look into visiting for next year!
