In Sept. 2022, we went on a trip to Grand Canyon NP and on the way home we stopped in Williams for the night. Route 66 came through Williams, AZ.
Williams was the last Route 66 town to be bypassed by the Interstate in 1984 and it maintains the nostalgia of a bygone era. The Historic Downtown District consists of 2 main Route 66 streets, one eastbound and the other west bound.
- Historic Downtown
- Pete’s Route 66 Gas Station Museum – This is a great place to see for car lovers.
- Gift shops, restaurants & diners
- Grand Canyon Railway – This is the station to catch the train to the Grand Canyon for the day. Alot of fun to do.
- Bearizona Wildlife Park
I got this stamp for the Route 66 Passport at the Williams Visitor Center.
Next town we drove through was Holbrook, AZ.
Holbrook was once declared a town ‘too tough for women and children’.
- Navajo County Courthouse – This a nice museum to see.
- Historic Main Street
- Old West Heritage
- Wigwam Motel
- Petrified Forest NP – We went to this park on this trip
- Painted Desert NP
I got this stamp for Route 66 Passport at the Navajo County Historic Courthouse.
Westbound: 712 miles to the end of Route 66
Eastbound: 2137 miles the end of Route 66
