On 7/13/2022, While we were in Missouri me and my mother went on a road trip to see the Oak Ridge Cemetery that is located in Springfield, Illinois.
I bet your wondering “Why would we go to a cemetery?“
Oak Ridge Cemetery is the location of the Lincoln Tomb State Historic Site. This is the place where Lincoln is buried with his 3 out of his 4 sons and his wife.
There were three different sites of where Lincoln was buried.
First spot was a vault on the side of a hill:
While his coffin was in here people were trying to steal it for money. They moved it to another spot.
Second spot was a in the hill:
They whole family was buried here but people still trying to steal the coffins.
Third Spot was on top of the hill:
This is Lincoln and his family final resting spot is in this tomb. Lincoln is buried ten feet under concrete so nobody can take the coffins. You can go in it and look around.
Outside the tomb there is a face of Lincoln. Somebody told us that rubbing the nose is good luck. We both rub it for good luck. Just to let know I did have some good luck during the week.
When you go in the tomb you can see all these little statues around it. They also have plaques with his life story on them. It’s really interesting to see.
As you can see that one of his son’s Robert isn’t here with them. He is buried in the Arlington Cemetery in Virginia.
