A Place Called Home
Me and my mom visited the Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site in St. Louis, Missouri.
Ulysses S. Grant was a commanding general of the US Army during the Civil War. Also he was the 18th president of the United States. He championed civil rights for African Americans. He was from Ohio and that was a free state of slaves. If you ever get s $50.00 bill that is Ulysses S. Grant on it.
When he was younger he courted Julia Dent at her house called White Haven. After the war he came back to marry Julia Dent. They stayed at White Haven for five years raising their family of four children. Grant helping out his father-in law being a farmer.
Where we started on the tour was in the museum. Where there was a lot of different artifacts that they found on the property.
Part of the museum there is a exhibit of artifacts from a barn.
The next place we went to was the White Haven house. The property was about 850 acres. There is also a summer kitchen, winter kitchen, chicken house and ice house. This is a beautiful home.
Here are the stamps that you can get from this park.
