The Lewis and Clark trail started from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the Pacific Ocean. The expedition took three years to complete 1803-1806. They travel nearly 4,900 miles of the country of over 16 states.
One of the stops was Fort Clatsop. Clatsop leader Coboway was friendly and hospitable to the Lewis and Clark. Expedition when the camped in Clatsop territory during the winter of 1805 – 1806.
The Fort Clatsop was along the Columbia River, not to far away from the Pacific Ocean.
